W2 Professur (m/w/d) Translationale Ophthalmologie an der Universitätsmedizin Göttingen (UMG)

As part of its strategic planning, the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is pursuing the consistent development of its profile-forming research foci in neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, and oncology with translational approaches, among others, within the new Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies. On the Göttingen Campus, UMG is closely linked to the natural and life science institutions of the University as well as the non-university institutions.

As part of the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies, a

W2 professorship (tenured) (f/m/d) Translational Ophthalmology

is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible clinician scientist with an independent scientific profile as well as comprehensive knowledge and many years of experience in retinal dystrophies and/or in the field of gene therapeutic restoration of vision that qualify you to take on a leading clinical and research position. We especially welcome applications of clinician scientists with track in clinical translation. Experience in the fields of animal experiments, basic electrophysiological research, and optical measurements of cellular activity in the retina as well as in the implementation of early clinical trials including diagnostic low vision tests and visual rehabilitation is desirable. The applicant is expected to contribute preclinically in the field of optogenetic applications and to advance the clinical translation of optogenetic vision restoration as part of the Dept. of Ophthalmology and in collaboration with other EKFZ teams and platforms. We are looking for a clinical researcher who will pursue further methodological development through collaborative use of the infrastructure available at the Göttingen Campus and make a substantial contribution to the acquisition of competitive third-party funding, the promotion of young scientists, and the development of teaching in medicine, biomedicine, and life sciences. An interdisciplinary research environment provided by the participating institutions of the EKFZ is guaranteed.

A habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification is required, as well as teaching experience. Further requirements for the appointment of university professors are laid out in the current version of § 25 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz – NHG). The UMG reserves the right of appointment.

Applications from scientists from abroad are explicitly welcome and the holder of the position would be integrated in an international team.

UMG aims to increase the proportion of women and therefore explicitly invites qualified women to apply. Severely disabled persons will be given preferential consideration if they have the same qualifications.
